Championship rules

The main aim of the XIV "World Football Championship of Medical Teams, 2008" and the V "Global Congress of Medicine in Health and Sport" is to promote the relationship among the international community of medical doctors presumably with a similar level of football skills and training and to promote the exchange on their medical subjects in research and science.

1. Each team may register a maximum of 25 players with minimum age of 25 years.

2. The championship is intended only for medical teams. The players must have a degree as medical doctor. All captains are required to send a photocopy of the original order of medicine and two photos of each of their players to the Organization Committee.

3. As has been the tradition in this tournament, one non-medical (paramedical) player is allowed per team however the non-medical player must have played in previous tournaments to be eligible. No new non-medical players will be allowed in the future. The non-medical player must be over 35 years of age at the time of the tournament and has to wear an arm band in the fields.

4. The players must be dressed in their team strip 30 minutes before the match begins. All teams should have a spare strip of a different colour to avoid coincidences. In this case, the visiting team (listed second in the draw) will change outfits.

5. If a team, for any reason, does not have at least 9 players in the field 15 minutes before the time scheduled for the beginning of the match, it shall lose the game by 3-0.

6. Before the match, the referee and delegates will check the documentation of each player; this routine can also be supervised by any of the captains.

7. The time of the match is 70 minutes divided in 2 halves of 35 minutes, with a 10-minute break between them.

8. Substitutions are limitless and reversible, i.e. any replaced player can substitute for another player later on in the match.

9. In order to favor older players, there must be at least 3 players wearing armbands (apart from the goalkeeper) older than 35 years in each team on the field during the match. Should a team not comply with this rule, one goal against will be given for each player older than 35 not playing.

10. Whenever a team wins a match, 3 points shall be awarded and, in the case of a draw, 1 point each shall be awarded.

11. The competition shall begin with a league among the teams composing one group. The number of groups will depend on the number of teams enrolled. The composition of the groups will be determined by drawing a lot at the opening ceremony..

12. Before the match, the referees will check each player's documentation, and they may also request from some of the captains.

13. Compulsorily, during the 10-minute break at half time of each match, the captain of each team will choose 2 players from the opposing team who will be required to answer a written test on easy questionnaire on medical topics. If there are some doubts as regarding the medical degree of a player, he will be asked to answer further questions by the Organizing Committee. If any player denies taking the exam during the break, the team will lose this match by 0:3. The Organization Committee may determine the permanent exclusion of any team during the championship if there is proved that there is more than one non-medical-player on the field.

14.Cards:

a. Yellow cards are accumulative. When a player incurs two, he will be penalized in the following match.

b. If a player commits a second serious foul after having got a first yellow card, the player will be sent off for 10 minutes in this match.

c. Two yellow cards in the same match mean a red card and the player will be sent off and penalized in the following match.

d. The direct red card means expulsion from that match and suspension of the following one.

e. In the case of serious infringement (aggression, inconsiderate attitude towards the referee or other players, etc.) the Organizing

Committee will decide on the punishment. The Committee may even agree to expel the player or the team from the championship.

f. The referees are aware of the amateur nature of the championship, and should be very strict regarding violent play.

15. Any questions, which may not have been taken into consideration in these rules, will be addressed by the Director of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Romualdas Sabaliauskas. He will together with the board of the "World Medical Football Federation" (Dr. Ferran Morell, Dr. Carlos Figueiredo, Dr. Alan Jones and Dr. Clemens Vogel) discuss and decide occurring problems.

16. Awards:

Each team will receive a trophy, according to their final position in the championship. A special award shall be given to the best goal-scorer, the best goalkeeper, the best defender, the best midfielder, the Fair Play team and to the best presentation and speech of a medical doctor at the congress.

17. Results and Classification will be printed daily by the Organizing Committee. They are available at the rooms of all captains at the teamhotel the morning after the matches.

RANKING

Scoring

- If a team wins a match - 3 points

- If two teams draw a match - 1 point

- W.O. - victory for the adversary team with score equivalent to 3:0.

PLAYOFF CRITERIA

If there is a final draw on two teams:

1: The result of the direct confrontation will decide.

2: Obtaining of the highest balance of goals in the stage

3: Obtaining the highest number of goals in the stage

4: Suffering the smallest number of goals in the stage

If there is still a draw the results will be decided by the toss of a coin.

If there is a final draw on three teams:

1: The results obtained between thr three teams (points) will be considered first.

2: Obtaining the highest balance of goals in the matches among themselves in the stage

3: Obtaining the highest number of goals in the matches among themselves in the stage

4: Suffering the lowest number of goals in the matches among themselves in the stage

If there is still a draw the results will be decided by the toss of a coin.

In playoffs:

No extra time will be played, series of penalty kicks will decide in the event of final draw at any match.

Penalty competition - begin with series of 5 penalties.
